DMS Architects designed the third phase of WCTC’s ongoing expansion of their carpenter training facility, providing new classrooms/offices, public spaces, a large flexible lecture hall, and associated service spaces. Built within a large warehouse type building in NE Portland, the student and staff built project showcases their expertise with their favorite material – wood. The expansive wood window wall that separates the building lab from the classroom wing is a highlight of the facility, providing a floor to ceiling view of the full-scale construction activity, while maintaining acoustic and dust separation. A continuous wood grid suspended from the roof also creates a dynamic ceiling along the corridors and open spaces, with the roof structure above painted black to disappear while light fixtures drop down in between the grid.
