This former warehouse in Portland was converted to 10,000 SF of office and retail spaces in one of the early redevelopment projects along N.E. MLK Blvd. The design inserted large lazing areas in previously solid walls and new skylights in the roof, creating expansive daylight-filled spaces highlighting the exposed roof framing. Reclaimed wood beams and steel were used to build a dramatic floating staircase in the rear building, while the simple black, white and Douglas fir exterior materials provide a clean, contemporary aesthetic. Black and White was designed in collaboration with Sakura Urban Concepts.
